Day 3

Today was another busy day at Rabaul. We started off the day with a yummy breakfast to boost us through the day. After breakfast one of the teams hopped on the bus to see the underground hospital and tunnels while the other team left to go to the Sub Base/snorkelling site.

When the three teams arrived at the underground hospital, we all stepped into the big black hole were some people got scared and waited at the exit. Also along the way, we ran into a huge scary spider! After that, we made our way up to the big tunnels with lots of space! so much space inside that there were 3 big boats that the Japanese had used in the war. Once we finished, we hopped onto the bus to meet the other teams. In our bus, Miss Peters requested a song “RadioActive” to ‘Now FM’ and they announced us on the radio.

Once we got to the substation, we did a beautiful walk with a lot of small tunnels and a lighthouse, it was soooo fun! Snorkelling was next in line. It was really pretty with colourful coral and tiny, little cute fish. To really surprise us in the distance we saw dolphins. They did all sorts of spins and jumps, though we were a bit late to capture them on camera.

After this long day we all skipped back into the bus for our long journey back to the resort. On the bright side we all got ice-cream! At the resort everyone chilled while the runners did their afternoon run in the sunset. At the end of the day, we were all told traditional stories from the storytellers and roasted marshmallows.  YUM!

TEMIS RABAUL TRIP DAY 2

Picking Coconuts and learning how to weave

My Reflection

Today is Tuesday the 20th of August, our second day in Rabual. We had lots to do, we started it off with breakfast and then we visited a local village where we learnt how to weave fans, mats and baskets. Monty got lots of hugs from the little kids. Everyone loved the bush walk; we had coconuts and drank the coconut’s water. Everyone was excited about seeing Isoroto Yamamoto’ s bunker. It was squishy inside. Some of us took photos of the hot springs; Isaac tricked people and told them to jump into the hot springs. We came back and had dinner. For dessert we had apple turn- overs, YUMMY!!!.

My Reflection

Today is the second day in Rabual and I am feeling like it’s the fourth. Today we got to see the hospital caves it was fun. We saw a kitchen and they there so many trails I almost got lost! It was cool they were little holes in the wall and Hannah Park told me they were for lanterns to light the place up. Outside the caves there was a memorial to honour the Chinese soldiers who died in the war. They were three concrete semi circles to bury the three soldiers.
I can’t wait for tomorrow to start!

TEMIS RABAUL TRIP DAY 1

Greetings from Monty

After an early rise, the Grade 5/6 trip to Rabaul took off with a hitch.  I managed to sneak about in Miss K's luggage and enjoyed the inflight refreshments of juice and biscuits.  When we arrived the children enjoyed a hearty breakfast and were separated into the rooms.  I'm rooming with Miss Green bank and Miss K.

The children were allocated into groups for the News Team Task.  This week the children will be covering the news across Rabaul. From the believeable to the unbelieveable.  The activity for today invovled a trip to the Bita Paka War Cemetery and also an entertaining game of Marco Polo which I watched from the sofa in my room.

The night ended with a delicious meal and a game of spotlight.  I bet you can guess who was the last caught....

We miss you Mum and Dad.  Look out for more comments from the News teams from of 5K and 6L.

Monty.
