Latest on Flight Details

Mr Bazzo called to say that they are at the Popendetta Airport, all checked in and all well. The plane has yet to arrive so we suspect that they will be delayed. Please call Air Niugini for the latest.

A Late Message...

A late text from Mr Bazzo reads: "Reception has been non-existent here. The kids have had a great couple of days embracing village life and being welcomed. Canoeing was a hit and so was the beach this arvo! We head back to town tomorrow. As far as I know, flights are on time. Will call then."

FLIGHT DETAILS FOR 7/8 GROUP

We have not heard from Mr Bazzo so reception must be bad at Sanananda.

The group is due to arrive from Popondetta at 3pm tomorrow afternoon on flight PX 857. Please be on time for pick up as the teachers will be glad to get home for a much deserved rest.

TO SANANANDA...

Today was travelling day - a long drive down the north side of the Owen Stanley Range to Popendetta. Mr Bazzo writes: "All is well, the kids were in particularly good spirits on the truck today until they started to get sleepy... but then one of the trucks got bogged which livened everyone up." They arrived at Buna in the afternoon. Half the group walked around the coastline, whikle the other half enjoyed a banana boat ride to Sanananda. On the return the groups will swap.

The students were unaware that they were about to be given a special, traditional greeting and meal by the local people of Sanananda.

Mr Bazzo said in his text to me: "So we swim now while we wait for the others to join us from their walk. Tomorrow we have a day's worth of activities here! Anyhow reception is hopeless... will try to text tomorrow."

That's all for now.

Enjoying Kokoda

ENJOYING KOKODA

Yesterday, the group enjoyed an hour and a half walk along the beginning of the Kokoda Track to Hoi Village. This was a fairly level walk at a leisurely pace. Everyone enjoyed being out, away from the city. The village of Hoi is beautifully situated on a small creek at the base of the Owen Stanley Range.

At about 6pm yesterday, the skies burst open and it poured for six hours. The students played 'Musical Tents' as some were washed out during the night. However, the Kokoda Spirit porters came to the rescue, erecting extra tents for the students!

The students have enjoyed their second day. They have been taught by the porters how to make bush stretchers (as the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels made them for the soldiers during the war. They are heading over to the Kokoda Community School this afternoon for some activities with those students.

Other activities have been playing the guitar, playing various games such as Capture the Flag and swimming in the river.

SAFE ARRIVAL IN KOKODA

The group has arrived safely in Kokoda. Mr Bazzo will send messages to us at school and we will relay information to you via this blog.

Mr Bazzo writes, " We are all safe on the ground! There were clouds and bumps along the way but all was well".

The group are off for a walk to Hoi village. They have our school mascot Monty with them and plan to take him swimming!

The weather there is overcast, humid but mostly fine.
