On Tuesday the 24th of July, my class 5D along with 5C visited a local village called Tubusereia.
The ambition of the excursion was to learn about life in the village, as well as local traditions and customs. Upon arrival at the village I initially felt shy and felt that we were intruding. However, Ms. Bate explained that the local villagers also felt shy and awkward in our presence. To break the ice we asked them their names and then asked them questions about life in the village. Afterwards we taught the village girls how to jump rope whilst the boys played soccer.
I was interested to learn that some of the houses have washing machines and running water. This surprised me as they were more modern than I anticipated. However, they mixed the old with the new as they hunted wallabies to sell for cash. I was surprised to see that the local school students were learning much the same thing as we do at TEMIS.
When I got home, I explained to my mum that the village had rain water tanks just like we do in our compound.
To begin with, I thought that we would be very different but it turns out we have a lots of similarities!
